PAPAROA TRACK
A convenient grouping of Easter and ANZAC day public holidays allowed enough time for me to escape down the West Coast. I have no photos to show from the Heaphy due to my camera going kapoot… turns out you can’t trust dry bags!
Despite poor visibility on the Heaphy and only really getting a good view of the ground with my head down against the wind and horizontal rain, these mountains and and rugged mountains are moody and magic. A sunny day out there just doesn’t seem right.
After a night in the hot water cupboard my camera resurrected itself (ironically on Easter Sunday) in time for a quick Paparoa Track mission. After the moist conditions I had endured, I was treated up on the ridge line with the most beautiful light and the company of a tomtit or two leading the way. Mountains direct to sea; landscapes of the best kind mixed with werewere kokako out in full force.
