SUNRISE HUT

Another bucket list item from my vet school days that never eventuated and a wrong turn on a backcountry gravel road thanks to google maps had me setting out much later than I would have liked…

The large quantity of switch backs made progress feel slow but eventually I made it to the ridgeline with low lying sun rays illuminating the surrounding peaks. My favourite time of day. Late arrival at the hut meant the fire was already fulfilling its purpose and despite the large amounts of people, it was a cosey night drifting in and out of consciousness to the sounds of snoring and farts.

The beauties of winter is the late sunrises and leisurely starts. In the morning I made my way out in the dark and followed the ridge behind the hut to be met by intense oranges and pinks with views all the way out to the ocean. It is a privilege to live in a country that is first see the sun.
