Mistakingly I planned this hike over Waitangi weekend and the huts were full to the brim. More and more I am appreciating living out of a tent and the peace and quiet that it brings, bar the pesky possum rustling in the tree above at midnight. I didn’t know what to expect from this great walk given the mixed reviews from others but it was utterly stunning. I haven’t experienced such old growth in the North Island before and despite the beautiful weather I can imagine it would be just as beautiful in a gloomy, drizzly day. The never ending swim spots were very much appreciated in the warm weather.
